After Ljubljana and Slovenia, it was time to move on to the next country: Croatia. Our first stop was Zagreb, the countries’ capital. Since our main goal was to spend time on the Adriatic coast, we merely spent only an afternoon here, to break up the otherwise long journey. The second stop before arriving at the coast was Krka National Park, famous for its series of seven waterfalls.
After a sweaty 8-hour train ride from Budapest, we were not in the best mood to look for restaurants. Lucky for us, we got a tip that a food festival was taking place at the Central Market Square every Friday afternoon. Strolling through quaint and green Ljubljana, we felt a bit more energized so we went to look for our quick no frills gourmet dinner, and were quite happy what we found.
After escaping the busyness by spending a day in Triglav National Park, we were ready to see another city. As always, we headed on a walking tour, through what turned out to be one of the cutest capital cities in the world: Ljubljana.
After visiting the cities of Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, and Salzburg, we figured it was time to broaden our horizon and head into nature instead. And we couldn’t have picked a better place then Slovenia’s Triglav National Park: its extreme greenery, beautiful lakes, and somewhat strange landmarks made for a perfect day out.
If there is one particular food item that stands out in Hungary is definitely paprika. Even though the paprika peppers did not originate from Europe, Hungary has really embraced it as their national symbol and an essential spice in the Hungarian kitchen. Its usage is evident in Hungary’s main dishes, however we also tasted some non-paprika items that we thought deserved a try.
