After getting a great deal on flights to Adelaide we decided a one-hour flight sounded way better then an 18-hour car-ride from Melbourne. With limited time, we hit the ground running as soon as we landed, and visited Kangaroo Island, Adelaide, and the Barossa Valley in just two days.
If you are looking to escape Melbourne, are interested in wildlife and relaxation, and are looking for a unique experience, Phillip Island and the Mornington Peninsula are a mere ninety-minute drive away. We spent a day on Phillip Island, before heading to Mornington for a day of bathing at the Peninsula Hot Springs.

With only three days to spare, our Christmas in Tasmania was quite action packed. Although we drove 1,250km in three days we quite enjoyed the luscious hilly landscape and somehow managed to see everything we wanted to: the Cradle Mountain, the East Coast, and the cities of Launceston and Hobart.
It only took two minutes after landing in Cairns before we swapped our long pants and shoes for shorts and flip-flops: North Queensland has a hot & humid tropical climate. Our main objective for the weekend was to see the Great Barrier Reef, but by renting a car we were able to explore the surrounding areas as well.

Our flight from Melbourne to Perth, the capital of Western Australia, took roughly four hours, and we landed on an early Saturday morning. Coming from Melbourne, Perth seemed a bit less fast-paced. Typically, on Saturday morning, people in Melbourne are out doing their weekend grocery shopping, but in Perth, it was very quiet in the CBD.
We, Mark & Herta, are currently backpacking through Europe, and eventually planning to settle in London. Beyond that? The possibilities are endless.
