The Romanian cuisine is heavily influenced by its Balkan neighbors, yet still quite distinctive. While there are far more options then we have listed below, these are our picks for must-try foods on a tight schedule. We recommend ordering on-time, about two hours before you think you’re going to be hungry, as eating out is a delicious yet lengthy endeavor.
We returned to Bucharest after our short trip to Transylvania. The capital of Romania is quite a modern city, although there are plenty of buildings dating back to the countries’ Communist past. Yet, alongside old churches and neoclassical buildings, the hotels, bars, and restaurants in the Old City give the city a modern feeling.
Transylvania is the central region of Romania, known for its medieval castles, forests, and mountains. From the countries’ capital, Bucharest, Transylvania is located about three hours north. We went on a day trip, visiting Peleș Castle, Bran Castle, also known as Dracula’s Castle, and the picturesque town of Brașov.
