From Puerto Iguazú we flew to Buenos Aires for a brief visit before heading down to Patagonia. The first thing we noticed was the European-like architecture. Since we had a limited amount of time there, we decided to do a comprehensive city tour, which took us to the embassy-filled neighborhoods of Palermo and Recoleta, as well as the central Plaza de Mayo, Florida Street, the waterfront of Puerto Madero, and the Boca neighborhood.
The only place we really stopped was the colorful neighborhood of Boca, which also houses Boca Juniors. We visited the soccer stadium of Boca Juniors. After four hours, we were glad to be off the bus, and decided to further explore the area around Florida Street on our own.
The following day we visited Colonia, which was a quiet but walkable town in Uruguay. On our last day, we mostly explored the different kinds of Argentinian food. However, after paying 10$ to use silverware in a restaurant (this cubierto charge is common in Argentina), we decided to join an entertaining all-inclusive tango lesson, show, and dinner. After learning ten steps or so, the actual show provided us with a good impression of how tango evolved over the years. Or maybe it was the delicious red wine served with the dinner that made it look good? Either way, a must-do when you’re in Buenos Aires!
